The most common stainless steel used in chemical tankers is the duplex grade 2205, but type 316LN steel is sometimes also used. The duplex steel, however, has the great advantage of offering a combination of high strength and excellent corrosion resistance, which allows plate thickness to be reduced by as much as 30%.
Welding consumables used in chemical tanker projects normally have to be approved. Avesta Welding consumables are approved by recognized societies like DNV, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, RINA and Germanischer Lloyd etc. For detailed information, please contact Avesta Welding.
Avesta Welding offers complete training courses, designed to meet the specific requirements of the ship yard and the ship owner. The programme combines theoretical knowledge about the duplex steel and its weldability with a thorough practical welding training. Avesta Welding provides full support throughout the project.
