Avesta Welding - Chronology

1925 First attempts to weld stainless steel
1933 Covered stainless steel electrodes are produced by the "candle-dipping" method
1936 Production for export starts
1948 The first extruded covered electrodes are produced in extruder press developed in Avesta
1958 Solid welding wire is introduced
1968 The first stainless rutile-acid, so called AC/DC electrodes are introduced and revolutionize welding with their extremely good weldability
1974 Increasing demand makes it necessary to form a separate Welding Division within Avesta Jernverks AB
1986 Avesta Welding AB becomes a separate company, subsidiary to Avesta AB
1987 Flux-cored wire is added to the product range
1989 New production plant for covered electrodes, as well as a modern research lab and offices
1991 Approval to ISO 9002 standard
1992 Avesta Welding acquires Johnson Chemicals, today Avesta Finishing Chemicals
1996 Welding strip is added to the product range
1999 Flux-cored wire production and drawing line for solid wire in Avesta
2001 Avesta Welding becomes AvestaPolarit Welding
Starting up production plant for covered electrodes in Indonesia
2002 ISO 9001:2000 certificate for AvestaPolarit Welding's Indonesian factory.
2003 ISO 9001:2000 Certificate for AvestaPolarit Welding, Avesta.
ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14000 Certificate for AvestaPolarit Welding,
Chemical products, Malmö
2004 AvestaPolarit Welding becomes Avesta Welding, an Outokumpu Stainless company.
2005 November 1, 2005 Avesta Welding AB becomes a member of The Böhler-Uddeholm Group.
