Pickling Methods

  In most workshops there will typically be the same sequence of operations even if the type of pickling process may vary:

  • Pre-cleaning
  • Pickling
    -Brush pickling with paste
    -Spray pickling with solution
    -Immersion pickling in a bath
  • ("De-smut")
  • Rinsing
  • Passivation
  • Drying
  • Inspection
  • Neutralisation of waste-water

The choise of method depends on:

  • The steel grade and type of component to be pickled
  • The requirements of the specification
  • The requirements on the visual appearance of the surface
  • The functional requirements on the surface
  • The automation potential
  • The environmental and worker safety aspects
