When the Chinese company Nantong Mingde Heavy Industry recently won a first order for two stainless steel marine chemical tankers from the Norwegian Jo Tankers, it chose to work with Böhler Welding Group and Avesta Welding.

Avesta Welding’s long experience of supplying complete solutions for the manufacture of chemical tankers was decisive when Nantong Mingde was selecting a partner for welding work.
This is China’s largest ever duplex chemical tanker project. Towards the end of 2011 and the start of 2012, over 100 tonnes of stainless steel filler metals (FCWs, electrodes, solid wires and flux) are being delivered for the two LR classed vessels. With a capacity of 30,000 DWT, each vessel contains 28 tanks in duplex stainless steel 2205 (S32205, 1.4462). The vessels’ IMO 1 classification allows them to carry extremely hazardous chemical products.
Besides dependable products that satisfy the stringent requirements of demanding applications, Avesta Welding also offers training and continuous support throughout projects.
Most of the duplex tankers built in China in recent years have been welded using Avesta Welding’s filler metals. Another two vessels can soon be added to the list.
